BIOGRAPHY
MALENA started singing in school shows when she was very young. When she was a teenager felt in love with traditional and social music. Then MALENA studied voice for four years at the School of Experimental Music in Santiago. During that time, she also sang in the Providencia City Hall’s Choir. When MALENA was around 17 years old, she was already singing professionally in different places around her home town ( Stgo.-Chile). After MALENA finished high school, she took her guitar and traveled through Chile for more than five years.

In 1988, MALENA was an active participant in the political campaigns to restore democracy. For this reason, she sang in many political demonstrations and performed for thousands of people throughout the whole country. MALENA was also part of numerous and diverse performances in radio and TV shows, such as Carta Blanca (Chile’s Megavision), in 1992, and in Radio Universidad La Serena and North TV, in 1999.
MALENA moved to New York City in the year 2000 and studied voice at The New School. MALENA auditioned for Music Under New York (MUNY), which she got and since then, MALENA have been performing in many different subway stations for hundreds of people every day.

In 2001, MALENA recorded her first independent album “Estacion Sur”, this is a compilation of Latin America popular songs. In 2002, MALENA was a cast member and voice director of the off-Broadway musical play “Don Quixxxxote”, written and directed by the Argentinean Gabriel Araucabarca. The play was nominated to the 2002 ACE awards.
In 2003 MALENA auditioned and was accepted to Julliard School of Music where she studied voice for two years with Professor Joyce McClean. In 2006 MALENA recorded a new independent album named "MALENA". In this albun she recorded South American folks songs with the participation of the well known Peruvian guitarist Rufino Ortiz and the Chilean guitarist Pancho Rodriguez .
